Web Standards Project

Founded in 1998, the Web Standards Project, or WaSP, describes itself as a "grassroots coalition fighting for standards that ensure simple, affordable access to web technologies for all."

W3C

The W3C - World Wide Web Consortium - is a gathering of dedicated folks who help develop recommendations and specifications for the technologies that make up the World Wide Web.

Web standards......and what standards mean to you.

Web standards are, quite simply, a set of rules web designers and developers can follow to insure that your site operates better, views more consistently, downloads quicker, updates easier, works with multiple devices, and is ready for future technologies and browser updates.

In the last years the major web browser companies have embraced the idea of standards in design and development. Web standards are supported almost universally in the new browsers, and with a few exceptions, many of the older ones. Now that this has happened, it's a better situation for both you and your customer.

What's in it for you?

As the web grows, and web browsers evolve, your site will have to keep up. A site built to current standards will continue to work on any new browser that supports standards. Web standard sites are easier to update, simpler to build, and often allow you to achieve professional-looking results not possible with the older methods.

The web is changing for the better - not only for designers, but clients. If you're getting ready to build/rebuild your site, consider using a designer or developer that builds Web standard sites.
